CIO Power List 2018: Recognising ICT legends shaping the future of business

Find out all that happened at CORE Media’s marquee event that honours superheroes of the technology world.

The fourth edition of CIO Power List, with Knowledge Partner KPMG, kicked off with a bang on May 4 at the Conrad Hilton Pune. The event was an opportunity to connect the most influential, ambitious and like-minded ICT leaders for an exchange of ideas and provide a platform to honour their success.

This year over a 100 ICT leaders were awarded in 40 categories, ranging from Cloud to Intelligent Bots and Robotic Process Automation, Digital Transformation,IoT and Security in Technology verticals to Real Estate, Retail, Healthcare and Pharma, and Banking in Business verticals.

The CIOs on the list have transformed their enterprises and made technology available all the time, in real time in a pervasive manner, irrespective of the business condition

Divided into Technology Icons and Business Icons, the winners were shortlisted on the basis of their influence within the ICT ecosystem and their industry. This was done using a unique algorithm that took into consideration a range of data on the CIOs from multiple channels.

The first day of CIO Power List 2018 started with a welcome key note from Anoop Mathur, Founder and President, CORE Media, followed by an eye-opening session on ‘Transforming Shadow Analytics’ with Dr Nitin Paranjape, Productivity and Analytics Guru. Next up was a discussion on ‘Smart Data Management Situation |Challenges’ with Neeraj Mediratta, MD andCEO, Ace Data Devices.

This was followed by an informative talk with MayankSrivastav, Country Head Enterprise Sales – IT Division, Schneider Electric, on ‘Re-imagining Datacenters for a Connected Tomorrow’. With open source drivingsignificant digital transformations across the board, the next speaker was an eagerly awaited one. SukantaBiswas, Principal Architect, Red Hat India, providedinsights on how businesses can drive innovation with open source. Day one also saw a Breakout Session with Qlik on ‘Using Data Literacy to Build Insight Driven Culture’.

Then it was time for what everyone had been waiting for—the CIO Power List 2018, Technology Icons, recognition ceremony. The awards took place with much fanfare, with the country’s leading CIOs being honouredfor their IT strategy and accelerated performance.

“It a great feeling of pride to be awarded a recognition by the IT community. I’ve been associated with CORE Media for a long time and each year they raise the bar at CIO Power List,” said Milind Khamkar, Group CIO, Super-Max Personal Care Pvt Ltd, who was awarded as a Cloud Icon.

The second day of CIO Power List 2018 commenced with a though-provoking talk from Mayank Gandhi, Leading Activist – Global Parli, on ‘Nation Building Through Rural Transformation’ that pushed CIOs to think about their role in taking the nation forward. The following session was a popular one, with Kunal Pande, Partner, KPMG, discussing ‘Robotic Process Automation – Maximising the Potential and Minimising the Risk’.

Next up Sunil Gupta, President and COO, NTT Com – Netmagic, gave insights into digital transformation, through disruption and innovation. This was followed by a session with Sukesh Jain, Senior Vice President, Samsung India Electronics, on how the company is driving the next mobile economy.

After a quick coffee break, attendees returned for a discussion with Shrirang Deshpande, Country Head -Datacenter Business, Vertiv India, on ‘Defining the Ageof Edge: Smart Solution for a Digital Infrastructure’. It was then time for CIOs to participate in the grand launch of the Vertiv Liebert Small Room Cooling system, an innovative solution that improves efficiency, uptime, and BMS connectivity.

Business intelligence and analytics are two of the top priorities for CIOs, and Mitesh Nagori, Lead – Pre-sales, Qlik India, was on hand to give some insights on BI trends for 2018. This was followed by another key launch of ShrinkOffice from adStringO. Dr Mohan Chandrasekaran, Executive Director and President, adStringO, introduced the gathered CIOs to the new MS Office file compression application that aims to improve productivity and efficiency.

Then Pravin Rane, Deputy Director – Economist, Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stepped up to provide some economic perspectives on the digital economy. After lunch, Ekhlaque Bari, EVP and Head – IT, Max Life Insurance, presented a humorous take on how CIOs can attract more investments in technology.

The next speaker was Souvik Chaki, Business Head – India, IndusNet Technologies, who spoke to CIOs about what it takes to deliver successful digital projects andexperience. Sanjay Mehta, Investor in Cryptocurrencies and Director, CORE Media, then came up to discuss a burning question—‘What’s Killing the Bitcoin?’.

CIOs then took to the stage to take part in an informativepower panel on ‘Customer Centric Digital Transformation Strategy – Reaping the Benefits’, powered by NTT Com – Netmagic and moderated by Anoop Mathur, Founder and President, CORE Media. The panel comprised Glory Nelson, Senior VP IT, SpiceJet, Ekhlaque Bari, EVP and Head – IT, Max Life Insurance, Ajay Meher, Senior VP and Head – IT, Post Production and New Media, ‎Sony Entertainment Television, and Shriranga Mulay, Senior VP and CTO, IT Engineering, NTT Com – Netmagic.

The last session for the day was a revealing and entertaining informal chat with Sanjay Mehta grilling CIOs Ritu Madbhavi, CIO, FCB Ulka Advertising, and Sunil Mehta, Senior VP and Area Systems Director (Central Asia), JWT, on various facets of the CIOs work life and role.

The celebrations then started with the CIO Choice advisory panel and eminent members of the CIO communitylaunching the impressive CIO Choice 2018 Yearbook. The evening then kicked into high gear with the CIO Power List 2018, Business Icons, awards ceremony.
